DaveDot Archive Journey
This directory is the working reconstruction of the DaveDot Files archive recovered from:
/media/david/11c17f9e-fed2-4f27-8d46-f72778942af6/home/davidlones/Dropbox/DaveDot Files
It combines three things:
- the original PowerPoint-era DaveDot decks
- the surviving exported or hosted site files
- the new Sol-37 era recreations and visual reinterpretations built on top of them
The goal is not just to preserve raw files. The goal is to document how the original material worked, what visual language it used, what ideas it carried, and how those ideas were translated into a functioning modern recreation without flattening the weirdness out of it.
What Was Recovered
The archive breaks into several related clusters:
- Root-era site files:

The Original DaveDot Before Reconstruction
The original DaveDot material was not one single site. It was a small ecosystem that moved between:
- PowerPoint as site-design tool
- exported or hosted HTML pages
- school-work portal pages
- sponsored links / toolbar era web conventions
- personal media and science-fiction themed information design
The core mission language survived across multiple branches:
Imagination is greater than knowledge.
That line appears as a mission statement, not a decorative slogan. It frames the whole project. DaveDot was built like a youth-made portal where science news, black-hole mythology, school assignments, web tools, and speculative cosmology could all live in the same universe.
Original Site Phases
1. Root / Under-Construction Phase
The earliest preserved root pages are:
This phase is simpler and more portal-like than the later wwwHome branch. It has:
- an under-construction feel
- Google and Blogger branding
- free-domain era visual clutter
- direct external-web dependencies instead of self-contained local content
latest_news.html is especially useful because it preserves the editorial voice. Its content includes:
Google NewsThe Science ChannelNASA- a note about Gmail access
- a note about the DaveDot Search Toolbar
This page shows the site acting as a curated web hub, not just a personal homepage.
2. wwwHome / Functional Site Branch
The later branch is preserved under:
This is the more fully structured site branch. It includes:
- home pages
- search pages
- FTP access pages
- school-work pages
- a saved
.mhtsnapshot of the school portal
This branch feels more like a functioning destination and less like a placeholder. It has repeated top-level navigation and stronger separation of concerns.
Important original pages:
Original PowerPoint Lineage
The PowerPoints matter because they were not just presentations. They were site prototypes, design documents, mood boards, content structures, and in some cases the clearest surviving expression of the project’s intent.
Dave Dot v.2.ppt
Source range in the recreated site metadata:
2005-03-23 to 2005-05-18
Key first-slide structure:
HomeNewsProjectsWorm HolesTime TravelBlack Hole Tracking
Key tone:
- the site is framed like a miniature science-fiction information portal
- the mission statement is central
- the content mixes real space reporting with speculative categories
Direct recovered phrasing from the preview PDF:
Imagination is greater than knowledge. We at Dave Dot Inc Think that you should always use your imagination.
This version is one of the clearest examples of DaveDot as a “space site” rather than a school site.
Dave Dot v.3.ppt
Source range in the recreated site metadata:
2005-03-23 to 2005-06-27
This appears to continue the v.2 site universe rather than replacing it outright. It keeps the same broad portal logic while pushing the project forward as a more complete package.
Dave Dot v.4.ppt
Source range in the recreated site metadata:
2005-03-23 to 2006-03-06
This is a major transitional deck. The navigation changes from:
Worm Holes
to:
Fourth Dimension
That matters because it marks the moment when the site’s cosmology becomes more conceptual and philosophical.
Recovered content from the preview PDF:
HomeNewsProjectsFourth DimensionTime TravelBlack Hole Tracking
Recovered news subject:
New HorizonsFireworks in SpaceSpace tourism
Recovered direct text:
After launch aboard a Lockheed-Martin Atlas V rocket, the New Horizons spacecraft set out on a journey to the edge of the solar system.
This is the point where the project becomes both:
- a space-news hub
- a speculative theory site
Dimensions.pps
Source date in recreated metadata:
2006-02-24
This is the shortest but most conceptually important deck.
Recovered first page:
0 Dimensions1 Dimension2 Dimensions3 Dimensions4 Dimensions
Recovered second page:
For something to exist it needs to be linked to its-self in other times. If it is not 4 Dimensional it only exists for an instant. An object can only exist in 4 Dimensions.
This deck is the origin point for the dimensional/theoretical branch that later influenced both:
- the old site navigation
- the new intro visualizations
index.ppt
Source range in recreated metadata:
2005-03-23 to 2007-08-27
This is the longest-running and broadest surviving branch.
Recovered first-slide structure:
HomeNewsMediaSite FeaturesSponsored SitesLinksAbout Us
This shows a major reframing. The site is no longer just a space/speculation portal. It becomes a broader media/features site with:
- a more explicit content taxonomy
- more web-era portal behavior
- a stronger public-facing navigation system
The move from Projects / Worm Holes / Time Travel / Black Hole Tracking to Media / Site Features / Sponsored Sites / About Us is one of the central archive transitions.
Welcome to David’s Homework Site.ppt
Source range in recreated metadata:
2007-03-21 to 2007-03-23
Recovered direct language:
Enter your passwordWe require a password because information on the site could be personal and is restricted only to Friends, Family, or Teachers of David.
This deck formalizes the school-work branch as its own interface. It is much more utilitarian and access-controlled than the cosmic DaveDot decks, but it still sits inside the same larger visual ecosystem.
Dave Dot Up-Date.ppt
Source date in recreated metadata:
2005-09-22
This deck matters for tone more than structure. It carries the “system alert” / “broken update” energy that later became useful in the new transmission intro.
It is the source of the memorable interrupted-system mood:
- update notices
- error framing
- machine-state interruption
Dave Dot O.LOGO.ppt, Dave Dot tbd.ppt, Dave Dot.ppt
These matter as earlier or side-branch visual artifacts:
- brand/logo exploration
- incomplete ideation snapshots
- short-form title or identity treatments
They are important not because they contain the richest content, but because they show the site being invented through visual experimentation rather than through one fixed build.
Original Images And Graphic Language
The recovered graphics include:
- Dave Dot.bmp
- Dave Dot LOGO.bmp
- Picture1.png
- Picture2.png
- Picture3.png
- toolbar.bmp
- sponsor badges and banner images
Visual traits of the original material:
- teal and aqua site backgrounds
- dark black content panes
- space imagery
- simple bitmap logos
- banner-heavy page layouts
- large table-era navigation buttons
- a strong divide between “content box” and “background field”
- a portal-like feeling where a site is also a universe
The original PowerPoints and sites did not look polished by modern product standards. They looked ambitious, layered, and literal in a way that made them feel more personal and more imaginative.
Original School / Utility Branches
The school and utility pages are important because they show DaveDot as an operating environment, not just a themed site.
School Work
homework_log.htm preserves:
- the heading
Welcome to David's School Work Site! - assignment entries
- class names
- grades and dates
Notable recovered assignment:
My Zune Media Player
This gives the archive a grounded side. It is not only about cosmology, NASA, and speculative interface design. It is also about actual school workflow, presentation, and personal organization.
Search / Toolbar
search.html preserves:
- the DaveDot search idea
- a note that the toolbar is optional
- explicit Conduit/community-toolbar era behavior
This is one of the clearest examples of DaveDot absorbing mid-2000s web norms and trying to operate like a real mini-platform.
FTP Access
ftp_access.html preserves:
- an FTP user/login framing
- user-file-system language
- the idea of DaveDot as a hosted environment with personal access control
Saved Portal Snapshot
davids-school-files.mht captures the school portal as a preserved artifact even when the live behavior no longer worked.
The Reconstruction Work
The new reconstruction lives in:
Supporting local archive assets:
assets/original/rootassets/original/wwwhomeassets/pptassets/ppt-previewsassets/ppt-thumbsassets/video
What The New Main Recreation Does
The rebuilt archive site keeps the old structure while making it usable now.
Changes from the original:
- dead external dependencies were replaced by local archive copies
- broken toolbar logic was turned into local archive search
- the old
Movie.wmvwas converted into a playable MP4 - the PowerPoints were surfaced as:
- original deck files
- preview PDFs
- first-slide thumbnails
- root-era and
wwwHomebranches were merged into one readable archive site
The rebuilt main archive intentionally preserves:
- the white/blue content framing
- the sponsor-link culture
- the directness of the original voice
- the sense that the site is a container for many sub-sites
The New Transmission Intro
The new intro sequence is not meant to be historically literal. It is an interpretive wrapper built from the recovered source material.
It draws from:
Dave Dot v.2Dave Dot v.4index.pptDimensions.ppsWelcome to David’s Homework SiteDave Dot Up-Date- the root and
wwwHomesite branches
It also incorporates later conceptual material:
/home/david/chatgpt-archive/multiversal-vector-space-lineage-2026-04-29.md/home/david/chatgpt-archive/multiversal-vector-space-lineage-2026-04-29.json/home/david/random/www/posts/thesis.html/home/david/random/www/posts/thesis.tex
What The New Visualizations Keep From The Originals
From the original decks and sites, the intro preserves:
- the mission-statement seriousness
- the cosmic portal framing
- the “small site as universe” feeling
- the fourth-dimension ladder
- the update/error interruption energy
- the school-work gate as a separate emotional zone
What The New Visualizations Add
The new intro adds a new interpretive layer:
- Weather Channel severity and panel logic
- NASA found-footage / relay aesthetics
- archive-recovery framing
- darker cinematic contrast
- moving starfield, scanline, telemetry, and radar overlays
- direct scene navigation and keyboard-friendly controls
Most importantly, it expands the original Dimensions.pps logic.
The original deck says:
- existence requires linkage across time
- 4D persistence is the threshold for existence
The new intro keeps that and extends it into:
- neighboring universes
- probability depth
- similarity fields
- affinity as pull
- memory topology
- observer traversal
This is the comparison in plain terms:
- Original
Dimensions.pps: a compact geometric and metaphysical claim - New intro: a probability-space visualization that treats the 4D shell as the starting threshold for a larger multiversal field
Comparison: Original Content vs New Visualization
Original DaveDot
- literal
- hand-built
- PowerPoint-driven
- portal-like
- personal
- uneven in the best way
- full of direct category names and direct statements
Rebuilt Archive Site
- documentary
- organized
- local-first
- readable as a preserved collection
- still visually period-aware
New Intro Visualization
- interpretive
- cinematic
- atmospheric
- more dramatic than the originals
- more abstract in motion, but still grounded in original wording and structure
Why This Archive Matters
This archive is valuable because it preserves a very specific kind of early personal computing imagination:
- a site built partly as knowledge portal
- partly as self-made media brand
- partly as school infrastructure
- partly as speculative cosmology
The PowerPoints are especially important because they show a design process where:
- a slideshow becomes a site map
- a site map becomes a worldview
- a worldview becomes interface language
The reconstruction is therefore not just nostalgia work. It is also a study of how early personal web and presentation tools were used to build complete internal universes.

Recommended Next Steps
- add this document as an in-site
Archive Notespage - expand slide-by-slide notes for each PowerPoint deck
- add side-by-side image comparisons between original deck slides and new intro scenes
- document the
burning_sandlineage separately as a neighboring but distinct branch - preserve a static screenshot set for each current intro scene so visual revisions can be tracked over time
