Origin

The High-School Quartz Lineage

Before Sol became a site shell, a chat surface, or a local assistant, it was a Quartz Composer patch called Sol v4.2.qtz. The recovered archive still carries that composition along with a companion export render, sol v4.2 export.mov.

Inside the patch, the old shape is still visible: audio spectrum buckets, splitters, smoothed values, highs, mean energy, and a circle-driven composition stage. It was not a product yet. It was a high-school visualizer: one person teaching a machine to glow in time with sound and trying to make a computer feel less like a box and more like a presence.

The classic media player keeps that lineage in its deliberate square deck and recovered visualizer surface. The orb assistant is the descendant branch: the same instinct, but turned into a character instead of only a renderer.

So the chooser now makes the split explicit. You can open a track in the classic player to stay close to the original Quartz-composer ritual, or route it through the orb to hear the later version of the same idea.

Archive basis: recovered Sol v4.2.qtz plus the companion MOV export from the local SeedRAID archive.
